Dwarf

Dwarves are one of the races in Ittoril, prominent through the southern Imperial States. The term "Dwarf" derives from the Dwarven Woodlands, where the Woodland Dwarves resided. Following the collapse of the Dwarven Kingdom and subsequent emmigration, Dwarven populations are generally divided into Beach Dwarves, Hill Dwarves, and the secluded Mountain Dwarves.

Characteristics

Dwarves are generally much shorter and stouter than humans, averaging around 4'3" in height but of roughly equivalent weight. They tend to have thick-set jaws and large heads, and grow significantly more facial and body hair than humans, regardless of sex.

Dwarves are considered one of the primary subspecies of Simisape within the evolutionary theory of Jan Silverstein.

Cultural Significance

Traditional racial theory of The Four Ways suggests that dwarves possess stronger wills (Giay Luy: Tĕm) and are more stubborn than other races of simisape.

Distribution

All Dwarven populations in the Imperial States and Near Wilds can trace their lineage to the Woodland Dwarves who populated the Dwarven Woodlands.

The Dwarven Kingdom collapsed in 169 LE, after which most Dwarves left and migrated northward into Reseggia, eventually settling in Weyland, where more northern populations form the Hill Dwarves, and more southern populations form the Beach Dwarves.

Another group of Dwarves, referred to as Mountain Dwarves instead migrated to the Alerine Mountains and established the New Dwarven Stronghold
