Dwarvish
Dwarvish is a family of language generally associated with Dwarves, though also spoken in other communities.
Distribution and Varieties
The Dwarvish languages originated in the Dwarven Woodlands, where Dwarvish was the official language of the Dwarven Kingdom. A largely unchanged variety of this language, called Woodland Dwarvish, is still spoken within the Woodland Commune.
Following the fall of the Dwarven Kingdom in 169 LE, the language was brought along by the various groups of fleeing Dwarves, and began to diversify. In Weyland, the varieties of Beach Dwarvish and Hill Dwarvish emerged among the Beach Dwarves and Hill Dwarves respectively. Meanwhile in the Alerine Mountain Belt, Dwarvish developed into Mountain Dwarvish in the New Dwarven Stronghold and its subsequent colony mines.
These varieties are for the most part mutually intelligible, but speakers will need to struggle to understand eachother. An artificial variety of Dwarvish, known as Modern Standard Dwarvish has also recently been developed which aims to bridge Beach Dwarvish and Hill Dwarvish.
