Gnomes
Gnomes are an uncommon race in Ittoril, though are few seemingly unrelated populations are found in various places, such as the Rock Gnomes in The Rotating Magnate and surrounding areas, and the Forest Gnomes who now inhabit in the Dwarven Woodlands
Characteristics
Gnomes appear like humans in most ways, except in being significantly shorter, generally between two and three feet tall. Because of this decreased stature, many Gnomen features, such as their faces, hands, and feet, appear comparatively larger.
Rock Gnomes usually have light skin with warm pink undertones, and dark black hair. Wood Gnomes are generally a little taller, with olive skin and quite striking red hair.
Despite their resemblance to humans and other Simisapes, Gnomes can only have children with other Gnomes.
Cultural Significance
There is a folktale among the Rock Gnomes that their race began when two peasants, Jacob and his wife Jana, angered a spirit of some sort (details vary across tellings), who subsequently laid a curse on them, saying their descendents would forever never grow past half their full height. Whereupon it is thus thought that all Rock Gnomes can trace their lineage back to Jacob and Jana.
Distribution
Two distinct groups of Gnomes are known to exist, and it is unclear if they have any relation. First are the Rock Gnomes, who have for known history populated The Rotating Magnate and nearby areas of the near wilds.
Second are the Wood Gnomes, a group currently centred within the Dwarven Woodlands, who have populated the area along with other races since the fall of the Dwarven Kingdom.
It is unknown where either of these groups come from.
