Worldborn

Worldborn are individuals created spontaneously out of natural elements in the world coming to life.

Characteristics

Ocassionally, inanimate objects in the world, such as trees, earth, or even manmade structures, will develop a consciousness and come to life, creating a Worldborn. This process has never been directly observed, but the creation does leave behind a visible hole in the natural environment the Worldborn came from.

Worldborn are generally humanoid, though can be of varying builds and have appearances resembling children, adults, or elders. They do not visibly age, and seem only to die of external causes.

A Worldborn's physiology will resemble the environment they were born out of. They may have a variety of skin tones, adorned with foliage or rocky protrusions. Some Worldborn are known to have horns, and occasionally more unusual features such as additional limbs or supernatural abilities.

Cultural Significance

Worldborn, generally appearing out of nowhere with little knowledge of the world, are often either taken advantage of or neglected and left to figure things out on their own. Though they are often seen to behave as children, they are in fact quite intelligent from the moment of their creation, and can learn rather quickly.

Distribution

Worldborn seem to appear anywhere in Ittoril, but are reported more in populated areas. Whether this is a true pattern, or an instance of sampling bias, is unclear.
