I recently watched the video The Grotesque Legacy of Music as Property by Adam Neely, and toward the end of it he suggests that art ought to have a citational system. Just as academics cite their sources, artists should cite their inspirations.
I think this is a really neat idea. A researcher can't come out and say "all this? yeah, straight from the dome." They must show that they are building on the work of others. And then, in so doing, they also give recognition to other researchers, and so people receive prestige not only from the significance of their own work, but from the significance of their contribution to the wider tradition. I think art should be similar.
Anyway, this is all to say that some of my pages have lists of "citations" or inspirations. They're put in chronological order, for no particular reason.
